License & attribution

The icon assets shown on this site originate from the OpenMoji project and are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Source

All icons in the TransparentCraft library are sourced from the OpenMoji project, available at openmoji.org and on GitHub at github.com/hfg-gmuend/openmoji. OpenMoji is an open-source emoji and icon library developed at the University of Applied Sciences in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, and contributed to by hundreds of designers and translators worldwide. The project releases its assets under a permissive Creative Commons license so that designers, developers, and educators can use them freely with appropriate attribution.

License terms

The OpenMoji icons are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0). The full license text is available at creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/. In plain language, the license allows you to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the icons in any medium or format.
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the icons for any purpose, even commercially.

… as long as you meet two conditions:

  • Attribution — you must give appropriate credit to OpenMoji, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
  • ShareAlike — if you remix, transform, or build upon the icons, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

Suggested attribution

When you use an icon from this library in a public-facing product, please credit OpenMoji somewhere visible — usually in your site's footer, your product's about page, or in your design system documentation. A simple line is enough:

Icons by OpenMoji – the open-source emoji and icon project. License: CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/)

TransparentCraft's role

TransparentCraft is an editorial layer on top of OpenMoji. We re-host a curated subset of the icons as transparent PNGs, write descriptions for each one, and organise them into categories and tags. We do not claim ownership of the underlying artwork, and we do not relicense it — every icon you download from this site remains under the original CC BY-SA 4.0 license. If you build something derivative from the icons, the same license applies to your derivative work.

If you are an OpenMoji contributor and would like your name credited on a specific icon page, please send a note via the contact form and we'll add it. If you would like an icon removed from the library for any reason, we will honour the request promptly.
